Were Thermolds pre-ban?
Is there still any value to them? I just found a box, and I'm deciding what to do with them. |

Some were, others not.

I really enjoyed mine. I got a deal on them back when.

I have a few orange ones I'm not letting go of, but the black ones I don't have a firm opinion on.
THIS archived post makes me think mine are preban. Well, that and the fact that they've been sealed in a Tequiza 12-pack carton long enough for the glue on the seams to start giving way. If I can find a way to get one out without destroying the container, I'll check. I'm almost 100% sure there were no LE stamps on them, as they were purchased new before the AWB sunset. |

Still valuable in Massachusetts.

I was gifted a pre-ban mag. I have used it as a range mag and in hasn't had any problems.

I haven't used any of my Thermolds in quite awhile but have never had an issue with any of them when I did. All of mine are pre-ban and still have some of the orange Thermolds from back when CDNN was blowing them out as well. A couple minutes with a pocket knife made those blank firing orange Thermolds work perfectly with regular 5.56 ammo.

Massachusetts could really use those pre-bans. They're staring down the barrel of a comprehensive "assault weapon" ban.

I remember quite a few years ago Numerich was selling the Thermold 20rd kits where you needed to assemble the mags for $2. I bought a hundred or so of them. Had a few that wouldn't drop free but they all functioned while shooting.

20 round Thermolds?
Any chance you still have a few extra somewhere? |

Most of these were "preban".
I had some problems with some (30 rounders), where the bolt would stop on the feed lips, and it would take a lot of drops of the bolt to wear enough plastic off the feed lips for the bolt to go forward unobstructed. |

We were issued some Thermolds (black 30 rd) to try out back in 1/10th SFGA in West Germany 88-90'. I stopped using mine after spine started cracking later in the early 90s. Still kept the cracked ones (now marked) for failure drills. So, some were definitely made prior to 94'

They're still in business? I thought they went by the wayside like Orlites.

I have a few that say Mastermold (I think) on them. It also says something like for law enforcement use only. They were made during the AWB. I bought them after the ban.

Of course, this is the same place I saw a Sig FCU sell for over $900 once, so I can't expect logic. |

I sold a pre-ban AR into the northern Commonwealth & restricted every other location.
