I'm thinking of putting together a 300 Blackout SBR upper, 6"-8.5" barrel length, for 100% subsonic suppressed use with 190-220 grain projectiles.

I was fairly settled on a particular barrel that happens to have a 1/8 twist, but recently I saw another Faxon is offering 1/5 twist barrels.

I'm wondering if the 1/5 would stabilize the subs better than the 1/8?

Anyone running subs in 1/8 or 1/5 care to share your results?

For 190-220 an 8 twist would work, but I'd prefer (and went with) a 7 twist. It gives you great accuracy in the 110-240gr range. Five twist is beat for 265+ but limits supers entirely.

1:7 will sufficiently stabilize just about any bullet you can fit into a 300 Blk load.  1:8 could be a tad on the low side for some of the heaviest of the bullets.

I have a 10.5 inch 7 twist barrel made by Bergara and it will stabilize a 220 SMK to at least 600 yards.

I had an 8.5 inch 1-7 and have been happy with it. But I have decided to go with a 7.5 inch 1-5 twist for a dedicated sub gun. Should have that together shortly and can do a range report.

I have an OG Noveske 8.2" (1:8) and a Rattler (1:5).  I've not had any issues out of either with everything from 110-220 EXCEPT for plated (TMJ) 220g rounds from Berrys.  I ordered 1000 before I ever saw the "no faster than 1:7" disclosure.  I sure enough had plenty of issues with them coming apart in the 1:5.
