What's lame is that Californians are excluded from participating in either sweepstake, so I'm out, even though I want to participate. No legal basis for not being able to participate in the parts kit one, and very little for the rifle one if FN America is willing to give even a tiny bit of effort as I'm sure they do for other FN rifles sold to Californians. Ironically, our ban may be a thing of the past before the entry period ends.
A few of the missing parts are a bit odd (the only ones that can't be imported are the barrel and receiver). |

Anyone know who makes the receiver in the rifle they're giving away? It just lists it as "FN/Aftermarket receiver."
Very curious. |

A little high but not totally out of line considering how high parts kit prices have jumped in the last few years. These rifles either had 21" bipod-cut barrels with a combo device, 21" barrels with a cup discharger for canister type grenades, or barrels that were cut down as short as possible originally 21", though). I think some were issued with bipods, but I can't recall for sure. They were also issued with ten-round mags, supposedly. |

Mao put his name in the hat
Ian mentioned in the video that something was being worked on regarding barrels and receivers. I'm guessing DSA may do a run of Type I receivers with Belgian/French language markings? I honestly know zip squat about the FAL, namely because DSA's never interested me much and I didn't have the money way back when to buy a preban Belgian FAL when I came across one. I see DSA now sells chrome lined 18 and 21" barrels which is a plus. A new FN CHF blank would be sweeter though. Not sure why I care because I'm an AK/SCAR guy |
|
|
The Fal kit shown in the pics is a type 3 lower which means the upper would have been a late production CAST TYPE III NOT A TYPE I
|
|
|
To be fair Ian calls them "Fals" and not "Ef Ay Ells" and has missed some other details in the past. I immediately caught the lower cut when he said that, but it's ok.
I tossed my name in as well. |

Some folks here say the letters or pronounce the acronym in a way that rhymes with the word "pal", which I find the oddest. |

The late Argentine type 3/4 has many different contours and cuts compared to type 3s. When I was down in Argentina doing FAL upgrades I discovered just how different they were when a extended scope mount would not fit correctly due to the contour change. I have to remachine the front of the mount to get it to fit the receiver. |

I've been on the FALfiles since 2002 and I never knew there was a Type 4.
I'll have to get my Argentine FAL out of the safe and look at it later today to see what it is. |

View Quote I doubt your Imported Argentine is a “type 4” because DGFM told me the guns I was worked on were very late production and they made changes on this last run FAL rifles. They were new in the box rifles I think they had like 10-12k of them. Also these contour and cut changes are very subtle and hard to notice. I didn’t see the difference till we started to install the mounts. I then looked closer extremely closer and saw radius, profile and contour changes. |

I have the books from Collector Grade, and been into FAL's for awhile.
There is no type 4. |

Maybe it's just an Argentine designation they use themselves?

I'll have to get my Argentine FAL out of the safe and look at it later today to see what it is. FAL Files is where I first heard the terminology. This was the post I saw that was the first I saw referring to them as such: In 1982 FNH went from a Forging to a Casting and they called a type 4. That lasted until 1988 when FN stopped production of all Fal's. Lack of total sales world wide killed the FAL. FN eliminated the radius cut on the front right of the magazine well and went with a more straight line for the investment casting to simplify manufacturing even further. Which meant that all GSI imported Fals from 1982 till the end were investment casting's unless there was older Fal's from former contracts that were canceled before payment was due on shipping. Parts that were cast were, Upper receiver Lower receiver and Para Type C bayonet and latch 22mm combo grenade launching muzzle brake Bi-Pod top leg swivel Cocking handle Selector lever Gas Block Trigger Sear Magazine release lever Safety sear Para Cocking handle Para release button Rotating sling swivel base Front sling swivel There is definitely a visible difference between these late receivers and the Type 3s. The switch from forged to cast is not the only difference between them. Paco over there also showed a lower from this generation which is also notably different from any Type 3 lower I've seen and I've seen members over there refer to this type as a Type 4 as well. The late IMBELs, while still forged, had the contours of the late FN receivers, while earlier rifles did not (and the center receiver sections that came in with the IMBEL kits contain the main difference). I've seen the terminology used by a number of members on the FAL Files including gunplumber, but I'm not certain of the original source for the terminology. Anyhow, the contours above the magazine well are what made me say it's not a Type 3. They are like the very late production receivers. |

Did anyone on here purchase one of these kits? What would be the best resource for someone to look at for assembling one of these?

I got my purchase code for one yesterday and it is on its way. They told me to call FNH USA directly (not the Estore) for deets on what the kits are/where they were/ possible configuration.
I'm tempted to get a DSA receiver, 16" or 18" barrel, and a para conversion kit and make it some semblance of a para. |

Got my code this evening, so I just ordered. Be interesting to see what shows up!

I got my code...was gonna order......then stopped by the pawn shop and saw a SAR48 for 1499. It has problems like no rear sight, it has a cheesy scope mount and leupold rifle scope and it's missing the flash hider and has some muzzle brake on it.
No magazine.....Got it for $1350....all of the stuff can be fixed. Fuck that shit waiting for a DSA receiver and barrel..... $1350 for a pre ban SAR48 made by an FN licensed factory...... |

I have a couple lying around from Para FAL builds I did in the past. They came off of Chilean parts kits so technically they would be the correct pedigree for a SAR 48. If a business trip unexpectedly pops up in my schedule anytime soon I will let you know. |

Idk if the unique codes are tied to an email address. But I got one and I am not going to order. PM me for it and I'll send it in the reply.

I probably won't be lucky enough to get a code so if anyone gets one and decide they don't want to use it i'd love to take it off your hands.
