Does anyone know of a source for M79 receivers that are finished (presumably as a Title 1 firearm, like the M203 version) or even castings of the receiver? Of course with the castings, I would also need the file to mill it. And yes, I am a DD MFG but a new one after 22yrs of being an 02/07 so this world is all new. So thanks for the help everyone!

The new M79 receivers being made will be in both steel and titanium, buyers choice. Currently prep is being made on making receivers, parts, and barrels. GROG

Do you have these, or a lead on these? Thanks, |

Sometimes he'll list M79s on GunBroker, he had some on last year along with some new;y made 40mm barrels. |

Jerry is not the manufacturer I am speaking of.
Work is currently underway on the receivers, small parts, and barrels. These things, understandably, take time. Be patient. I will advise as more info becomes available. GROG |

No problem waiting, and I will standby for info. Thanks! |

The barrels will be made from 7075 castings, and will be available in both 37 and 40MM. Receivers will be marked 40MM. GROG

I wish we could get chaulk rounds for as cheap as the used to be now that more and more people are getting 40mms.

They will be fully assembled M79s, not receivers. GROG
Edited to add, the receivers are being sold stripped for now, but the manufacturer is getting the parts done, so fully assembled in the near future. GROG |

Parts will also be available, as well, and receivers if one wanted to build their own, but the intention is complete M79s. GROG

As a side question, how do you guys feel about carbon fiber barrels? The manufacturer is thinking of offering them. They would be stronger than the 7075 barrels. Just throwing it out there for consideration. GROG

Like a CF rifle barrel? Metal sleeve with CF wrapped?

Any particular advantage to carbon fiber, like weight savings?

Carbon fiber complete barrels. AFAIK no liners...
I would imagine a price difference, weight perhaps, and my advice was that, most guys who really want one would want original Vietnam era mil spec. GROG |

I think carbon fiber barrels would be cool for newer grenade launchers like the M203, but as for the M79, people buy it for its classic look and connection to history, not to make it more technologically advanced. At least that is my two cents. Sven Manticore Arms |

There are newer standalone 40mm that would benefit from a carbon fiber barrel, but as others stated the desire for a m79 is that classic wood and metal look. Don't think they would sell very well with that option.
The only suggestion I would give is for them to offer a snub nosed model with a sawed off butt stock, aka pirate gun like the seals used on the raid. I'd gander that would generate a lot of interest from the clone army who wants everything cool mil related and ultimately help sales and a better price point. Forgot to add, the pirate gun will need a lanyard loop and pic rail on top for red dot/RMR. Gotta keep it as close to clone specs as possible. |

We are working on that currently. ATF was contacted about that, and their position is that it can be offered, but the barrel has to be made somehow that it cannot be easily swapped with a 40mm one... We have a few ideas and are working on figuring it out. I know they were made before with some sort of lug in the receiver and matching barrel part that would have to be milled off to fit a 40 barrel. So, it (the 37mm option) will be done when it gets figured out.
Progress is being made. I know many are excited and "chomping at the bit". Patience... it will be awesome. GROG |

All the plans are out there for both 37mm and 40mm M781 rounds. And last I checked, the .mil launching blanks are no longer unobtanium. And speaking of 3D printing, until the real deal comes out....you can DIY a 37mm model on a budget. AWCY Presents: DaFizzlez's NT79 37mm Signaling Device |

Here is what I have found:
Auto Weapons has a M79 Receiver Casting, but not both parts at 1495.00: https://autoweapons.com/photos/accys/m79.html Jerry at Recon Ordnance has no price listing for the barrels or receivers: http://reconord.com/m-79.html I was told by Jerry (via phone) that he sells them as whole units at 7500.00. (To much $$$ for me) He said they are Kanar Corp Vietnam issue. And that he has not yet dipped into his Repro stock as of yet. He also is selling parts on Gun Broker: (Every blue moon) https://www.gunbroker.com/item/944911561 https://www.gunbroker.com/item/944911575 https://www.gunbroker.com/item/944911562 https://www.gunbroker.com/item/944911656 BUT NO RECEIVERS on Gun Broker Another Full Unit at 8500.00 here: https://www.urban-armory.com/portfolios/m79-kanar/ There got to be a way for a poor man to get one. |

Quick update, as I know many are waiting patiently...
The manufacturer advises that he is also doing a carbon fiber receiver version, and that will be in, done, and begin the testing phase within the month, followed shortly after by the Titanium and steel versions. Once T&E is completed, and any potential bugs fixed, they will be released "into the wild" so to speak. GROG |

Any thoughts on the carbon fiber receivers?

Any update??

The manufacturer had a slight setback last month when his CNC guy had a heart attack, but he's back to work, and should be testing the final product out within a couple weeks. He's going to be offering two versions, Steel and Titanium. Both will have a matt black coating, the steel nitride. based. Prices are going to be in the 2k to 2.5k range, depending on which you want. Not taking pre orders just yet. Once testing is done, I will post pics and the manufacturers contact info for purchase. Parts kits can be had from Jerry at Recon Ord. The manufacturer doing the receivers will be doing new barrels next. Also looking in to doing M203 receivers and barrels at some point in the future. GROG
|
|
|
Also, he was planning on doing parts, but since Jerry has a very large supply of them, and we all are wanting the 79s ASAP, he decided to put parts on hold for now. It takes quite a bit of time to program these parts for manufacture, and the receivers were quite a bear to tackle. They are being offered at around 1k lower than I've seen welded together ones, so still a very good deal on them. GROG

So is this a dead thread? Is there any further info??

Due to health problems of the CNC programmer, the project is taking a bit longer than predicted, but is still proceeding. I will update this thread when the project is completed and units are for sale. GROG

Hopefully it works out. It seems like too many projects hit snags just like this and wither away. I want a 40mm grenade launcher and an M79 would be a great starting place.
