This is Lorenza and I’ve had her for nearly 30 years. (She’s 33) She was diagnosed with cancer today and the vet said she has a few months left tops. I took the rest of the day off. Crap. |

That's rough. Sorry to hear that
I was a baby or possibly not even born yet when you got her. She's been around longer than me. That's incredible to think about |

33 aint no age for a birb....!
Hope she has a good few months of extra treats and an adventure or three. |

I feel you, bro.
Been a bird guy for decades. She's a cutie. Most people don't understand that birds really bond and love neck rubs, and like to cuddle up and nestle in. Birds are awesome. And cancer always sucks. |

Sorry to hear that dude. I've always been intrigued by birds. Watching them on YouTube has been a lot of fun.
Maybe one of these days If I get a better property I'll get a duck. |

So sorry. She’s a good girl. I hope her last days are easy and I know they will be full of love

30 years is a long time to have a pet, then lose it, regardless of what it is. Birds can get attached to people, and people to birds, just like a dog or cat. Sorry for your bad news, I hope Lorenza doesn't suffer any, she's a pretty bird.

Wow I didn't know hey lived that long. Sorry about your birdie.

Quoted: Wow I didn't know hey lived that long. Sorry about your birdie. View Quote The Amazon parrots can live 80 years or longer. If she didn't get cancer, she might have decades left. She is a pretty double yellow. Bet her wings are amazing. I had a yellow nape with remarkable rainbow wings. Birds are so cool. |

So sorry to hear that
Never easy to even think about losing a family member |

Very sorry. I hope that you can still have lots of meaningful time together.

Thank you for all the kind thoughts. Yes, she’s been showered with treats these past few months. Her favorite is vanilla ice cream which the vet forbid, but I figured it doesn’t make any difference now.
She was doing OK, but significant and sharp decline in the past 12 hours. Maybe she had a stroke or something. I think we’re reaching the end soon. |

She got a reprieve for now. She can no longer climb and has trouble walking. Vet thinks she has arthritis in her feet. Not sure why it came on so suddenly, practically overnight.
Vet also found an ulcer on her tongue which explains why she was eating less and said to put her on a diet of baby food. It worked and she immediately took to it, but I have put it on a plate in front of her to eat. At least she still has an appetite. In the evenings she sits in my lap and I pet her while she nibbles on my fingers. |

Glad that you’re getting a little more time together. Is she still getting a little ice cream?
I’m sure that you will know when it’s time to let her go, but I’m still dreading that for you. |

She is a pretty bird.
Amazing that you’ve had her 30 years. I’m sorry for your loss. |

RIP, Lorenza. It has to be rough to lose a buddy after 30 years, that is a long time.

Thank you all.
I wrapped her in a towel and took her to the vet on Saturday morning. At least she departed this world on a Friday evening as I’ve been in a funk all weekend. Not getting any sleep and can’t function so I just caught up on laundry. Diet? Yeah, forget that. Thought about going to the range today and even took out some gear, my newish A1 clone which I still haven’t fired yet, but decided against it as I would be at risk of doing something dumb in this condition. I did order a DD Enticer S Ti though. Maybe I was looking for an excuse. I cleaned up her hospice area, but her empty living space (can’t call it a ‘cage’ since we never locked it) is still a haunting reminder though. I can’t look at it. I think I’ll be ok tomorrow as work should give me something to focus on. |
