After going to klipper and a raspberry pi for the actual pulse generation?

I would think that would be one of the advantages of doing that.  The ability to increase the driver microstep rate (increase resolution) without loss of speed.

Does anybody mess with that or does it not make a noticeable difference?

It sounds like the same problem with trying to run steppers from a pc with software step generation like LinuxCNC or Mach.

I wonder if anyone has tried to run a klipper 3d printer with a Smoothstepper or similar hardware step generator instead of a raspberry pi.
