I’ve used a MakerBot in the past, however, it’s been moved so I can no longer use it.

I really liked how it could use water soluble filament for the supports as well as carbon fiber.

I’ll mainly be printing stuff for guns like stock spacers and maybe try a lower or frame at some point.

I like the idea of the Prusa XL but it’s just too large for my space.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Bambu p1s here. I didn't get the AMS because it was out of my budget at the time.

There's some really nice multicolor stuff out there that makes me want to get one, but on the other hand, people are having a lot of issues with it too. Failure to feed or retract mostly.
That from following a couple of FB groups for Bambu.

Do it, I've had my prusa mk3s for about 3 years and as soon as I get around to it I am switching to the x1c. I love the prusa but everything about the xc1 is better.
matternof fact I am ordering today.

Find any coupons by chance?

That’d probably push me over the edge.

Microcenter had 10% off, in store only.
Compare matterhackers.com to bambu store to see if the additional loot makes it more attractive to buy there.

With Memorial day coming, I'd watch for sales.

I had an ender 3 for about 2 months before I bought a P1P with AMS, then an X1C with AMS and then a P1P followed shortly by another AMS.  Buy it and don't look back.

My coworker, who is heavily, heavily into 3d printing for tabletop gaming figures, said that the Bambu printer is the first "appliance 3D printer" he has ever experienced.

What he meant was that you take it out of the box and plug it in and assemble it and it works with no setup and fiddling and experimenting.
He says that all other previous printers he has owned/used were "hobby 3D printers"; and you spent more time learning out to make them work "reliably" than printing. He acknowledges that that is a bit of an exaggeration, but I get his point.

I went from a Creality to a Prusa mk3s+, to a Prusa mk4, and now I have a Bambu x1c with the AMS and I will say that it is nice.

I'm going to order one, however, I'm going to wait until I can find a 10% off coupon just because there's nothing critical that I need to print right now.

Thanks for all of the info!

Not sure where you're going to find a 10% coupon?

I love mine though. 2x AMS on mine.

The only way an X1C for a first printer could be bad is if someone absolutely didn't have much use for 3d printing in general.  In that case you might say look at an A1 or P1 just to save some $$ in case the hobby doesn't take.  But since you are already somewhat knowledgeable, the X1C is a great buy.

For discounts, there may be something in the fall when they have their anniversary.

I’ve gone down the rabbit hole and am looking at the Sermoon D3 as it’s $1699 right now.

I know it doesn’t have all of the features that the Bambu does but I really just want fast, quality, prints and the Sermoon appears to allow for more durable filaments too.

Decisions, decisions.

I’ve read a bunch on the other one I was looking at and I’m just going to stick with the X1C.

I’m still hopeful that I can find a discount but I may just order it in the morning if I strike out.

My first 3D printer was an X1C with AMS.  I’ve had a wonderful experience with it.  Any issues I’ve had have come with a QR code and video on how to fix the issue.  I’m sure there are plenty of other printers out there that are great.  With the X1C, the user experience for a person who just wants to print stuff off the internet and design their own parts is phenomenal.  The only reasons I can think of to not go that route are A.) budget or B.) you want to tinker and mod the printer as an adjacent hobby to actually printing stuff.  Bambu does not appear to run sales on the X1CC often, but maybe hold out until Memorial Day to see if sales appear.  They won’t be huge though.  10% off is probably about the best you can expect unless they announce a higher tier consumer model.

Recommend using orcaslicer instead of Bambu Studio though.  It has all the benefits of Bambu Studio AND more advanced functionality, but can go with you if you end up adopting another brand of printer down the road.

I'm getting ready to order.

For stock spacers and the like that can get wet, be frozen, direct sunlight for hours, have chemicals on them, etc. should I go with ABS-GF or PETG-CF?

PETG would be the better of those two.

Atomic makes excellent CF PETG.

Lose the glue stick.

Bambu filament is pricey for what it is, Is order something else.

Skip the hardened extruder, unnecessary.

Skip the Bambu hotend, get an E3D ObXidian hotend instead.

It comes with extra wipers.

Skip the PLA support. Use PETG for support.

I thought the hardened extruded was needed for CF but it’s not?

I plan on trying other filament brands and hot ends later but at first I just want to stick to Bambu since I just want things to work while starting out rather than trying to guess what’s wrong.

I’ll go with the PETG for support though. Is it just that the support has to be a different material than the main print or why wouldn’t I use support specific filament?

It's a hack in the 3D printing world. PETG only sticks to itself and TPU, and TPU not very well at that. So you can use that fact and you can use nearly anything for supports for PETG and you can use PETG to support nearly anything else. It works best when extruder temps are within 20 degrees of each other which most of the time it is, u less you get into exotic stuff.

The hardened extruder isn't the same as the hardened nozzle. You DO need a hardened nozzle for CF PETG, etc, but you really only need the hardened extruder itself if you're dealing with glass filled nylon or further exotic materials. I've not found it necessary for the basic stuff. If I ever wear it out I'll upgrade it, but I wouldn't call it necessary.

No worries.

I just ordered 2kg to get free shipping and then some 8x3mm magnets for the poop chute design that I found and like.

I may actually use the ASA for the stock spacers now that I read the specs if that doesn't sound like a bad idea?

I'll need to make it 28" Wide and 30" deep or so and then however tall it needs to be.  I plan on anchoring it to my reloading bench and to the wall.

I'm 6'0", with a 41" bench. It is perfect.

Just put the AMS next to the printer. Helps when printing PLA anyway.
