Short version - pretty easy, at least if you can get an exemption from training.
The only hassle for me was getting to a Live Scan fingerprint place. After that, everything was online, including creating/submitting the application and uploading a passport-style photograph and proof of training (or a DD214). The application has some things left over from their "may issue" days, like "reason", your recent employment history, and contact info for three references (and their employers), but they apparently no longer contact any of these folks. About 30 days from submitting the app to approval, and another week to get the permit in the mail. Far easier than the DC process. |

Steve, send me your email please. I will send you the state police outline of what is supposed to be covered in the classes we give. It goes over the state laws pretty well.
I give classes pretty cheaply, but yes the dd214 stuff is the easy button. |

The DD-214 shortcut definitely left me a bit ignorant about Maryland-specific topics. I had to sit in a classroom for 16 hours for DC, so I have a much better handle on their rules. |

Depending on where you’re located and duration I’d be interested in doing one of your classes vs from a rando. I’m hql exempt as well but figure it’s worthwhile/shows due diligence were something to happen… |
