I have an 1100 I'd like to use but the trigger group on it has no safety. Legal or no?
 I'll use another for 3 gun that has a safety

I've never seen or heard of that and would like to see a picture.
Do you need a safety? I'd recommend one. |

Dunno, OP. I'd like a safety on my shotgun, but I don't have them on my striker pistols - nor do I want them.
But...one thing you will need in SHTF is a good shotgun or two. I think they will be useful for taking down small drones. Antifa has said they wanted to make small, homemade explosive drones. They had another thread here showing a Russian dying a terrible death from a drone gas attack.( Speculation as to poison gas.) Whatever, drones will be the new sniper round to hunt people down. Now the only question is what is the best 12 ga round to bring them down? |

I don't think there is any legal requirement for a safety on a shotgun, or any other firearm.....is there?

I know nothing of tactical shotgunning. I do not know the rules and regulations regarding that branch of competitive shotgunning.
In skeet if you call pull and your safety is on it's a lost target. it's not a failure to fire (you get 2 of those per 25), its a flat out lost target. It's not uncommon to find skeet guns with their safeties pinned. It's a big deal, competitions are generally won in a shoot off after having shot 100 straight. A loss due to a safety on and you're out of the running. In trap, I think it is ruled as a Failure to fire, and you get 2 occurrences of that in a round of 25 - after that it's lost. Basically you get 2 failures to fire for most any reason, then they are lost. Sporting Clays - NSCA is the same organization as skeet (NSSA) - I'd guess its going to be a lost target. |

Not sure about your local hunting laws or sporting clays. But as long as you keep the chamber empty while you're not shooting it should be safe.

If you were hunting with me and my dog your shotgun would need to be on safe unless you were about to shoot a bird. No safety? You can use my extra shotgun or wait in the truck.

The only shotguns I know of that do not have a safety are single barrel trap guns. Browning BT99 comes to mind. Dedicated gun for a specific discipline. Other than that it’s a bad idea. A safety on any firearm is a good thing just ask Plaxico Burris.

I guess I should have been more specific.
I want to use a Remington 1100 in 3 gun competition. I have two, but the one I'd like to use has a trigger group with no safety. The whole assembly was swapped out back in the 80's for a hair trigger with no safety for Sporting Clays competition. I'll post a pic when I can get my imageshack account working. |

I have shot 3-gun stages where the stage description states something like....
"start position, face downrange, shotgun butt on belt, safety on, engauge targets as the become visible " I remember running the shot timer on a match once, and the shooter had an AK type rifle, and small paws, and I thought, it's gonna take him forever to take that safety off the AK......and it did. TL;DR - you want a safety on your 1100 |

I just knocked it out so I could look.
It has nothing on it whatsoever. ETA it measures 3.5# on my trigger pull gauge. |

When you stage or abandon a gun, it must either be empty or have the safety engaged. Lack of a safety means you have to shoot or rack it empty each time.

Depends IMO.
For skeet, trap, Sporting Clays I don’t want or use one. For 3-gun or hunting, yes absolutely. |
