I've got over 40 years of trigger time behind the M1 rifle shooting xtc comps. Last year I FINALLY gave in and purchased my first AR15 (with my wife's blessing). It's a Windham 20" A4 govt rifle. The barrel is a 1:7 and chromed. My question is, how much of a detriment is the chromed barrel? I'm not shooting in the master class nor am I even anywhere near. I'm not at the point where I'm out-shooting my equipment either.
Should I just accept every thing as is, or should I start saving for a barrel? If the latter, what barrels do you recommend? I'm retired and on a fixed income so I can't just work a little OT and squirrel it away.
As to ammo, I roll my own so work-ups are still in process.
Thanks.
Jon

I have the same rifle and really like it. Have you shot it yet? I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Yes, I've shot it in comps already. I really like it--a LOT. I'm just hoping the chrome bore isn't holding me back any. Like I said, I'm not out-shooting my equipment.
