I went to UCLA, which is used all the time.  Had to reroute movies being shot a few times a year. I could tell you certain lecture halls or which building is in a scene.

Also lived in Philly and Charleston,  so yeah. Lots of places... but don't necessarily know I'm seeing them!

Just to name a few. They left quite a few sets behind as tourist attractions for the ranch. Got to ride some side by sides through the ranch a couple years ago. Pretty cool.

Columbus WI when they were filming Public enemies. Also eaten at little Bohemia where the actual shoot out occurred, and where they filmed it with Johnny Depp for the movie. Met Johnny Depp in Columbus while they were filming. Seemed nice. He was alot shorter than I expected.

I was in Philly when they were filming national treasure and had to plan my vacation around it. I was at the liberty bell a few hours before they filmed their scene there.

Ah!  Blood Simple.  The 6th Street and Mount Bonnell locations.  Been there, too.
Also, Ace aventura 2 was filmed on the 777 Ranch in Hondo, TX. My best friend was a hunting guide there for a few years. Got to go on a doe cull there and a few sets were still standing, like the African native village.
Spent 2 nights on the USS Lexington where all sorts of WWII ship scenes are filmed, including Pearl Harbor

I grew up in Tulsa, OK.  I was a freshman in high school when The Outsiders was being filmed there.  My friends and I thought it was cool to visit the areas where much of the filming was done.  Sadly, most of those areas have been repurposed and the buildings torn down or renovated, although the Admiral Twin drive-in is still around and the Curtis boys' house is now a museum.

I lived in Hampton SC for a while back in the 90s.

Righ next to Hampton is Varnville.

Forest Gump was filmed in the area; that hole young Forest got his brace caught in was preexisting in the sidewalk, and the barber shop is really a trophy shop.

Not a movie, but I got to see the filming of many courthouse step scenes of Walker Texas Ranger.  At the time, I worked in Dallas at Lone Star Gas and from my office I could see them filming on the steps of the Dallas Scottish Rite building on Harwood Street.  We always knew when they were shooting because all of the on-street parking would be blocked off and the trailers / RVs used by the cast and crew would be parked around the Lone Star Gas building and the church across the street.

Ohio Penitentiary hosted crews to film Shawshank Redemption, and a few other movies and music videos, and is well worth the visit for anyone around Mansfield, Ohio.

Spoiler alert, a visit there will show you that Andy's escape tunnel wouldn't have worked.

For many years I lived 2 miles from the dam that was "blown up" in The Specialist. As teenagers, we hung out around there a lot. Was away at college when the filming was done.

Visited:
-Spearfish Canyon SD, where some of Dances With Wolves was filmed. Saw a sign commemorating one area.
-Just recently along FM-70 inside Bend Ranch State park TX. A ruin called Contrabando where several movies were filmed. The gate was locked and I didn't have tome to walk around that day.

I grew up in Hollywood and surrounding areas. Everywhere I went was a film set at one time or another. It was pretty funny watching television shows where a car would go screaming around a corner and, when the camera changed to show it from the other side of the corner, the car would be coming out of a corner that's 20 miles away from the corner they went into.

While not a movie, it still is very well known as being the police HQ for the Miami Vice TV series.
Used to be a ship repair office by the river.
Drove by there almost every day.
Got torn down a few years ago.

Occasionally drove by the high school where The Substitute was filmed.
The movie was a pretty accurate depiction of the demographic and studious inclinations of the "students" there.

This is just a partial list:

Three years in Hawaii on Oahu 75-78  - many films shot.

From my back yard, I can see White Sands National Monument, where 35 major movies were filmed, according to IMDB. Transformers was shot at Holloman AFB.

Part of Star Wars was filmed West of Las Cruces, Contact at the VLA and No Country for Old Men in Las Vegas, NM.

El Paso, where I lived for thirty years, had over 464 films shot, (IMDB), including Kill Bill, The Mule, Traffic, Sicario, Seven Days in May, Rolling Thunder, etc.

Camp Pendleton, where I was stationed off and on over twenty years, had 47 films (IMDB).

MCAS El Toro where I lived in 80-82 had 6 (IMDB)

MCAS (H) Tustin where I was an air traffic controller, had (14) including Star Trek, Pearl Harbor, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.

My step son was an extra for Courage Under Fire, filmed east of El Paso. He's one of the guys holding an AK on a ridge line.

Here's a pic From Carrizozo where the street shoot out took place for The Book of Eli. Wander, This Must Be the Place, Mad Love, The Outfitters, American Drug War: The Last White Hope, and Ride Tail you Die were also filmed here.

Chimney Rock State Park was literally in our back yard when we lived in Edneyville, NC. The back road they used to haul in all the movie equipment for Last of the Mohicans was about 100 feet (straight down) off our back deck. We spent a lot of time hiking our golden retard through the parts of the park the tourists never saw.

Back deck. Coolest place on earth to drink a beer and BBQ in the fall.

I have been there as well.   It’s in the jungle outside of Puerto Vallarta.  There was still a shell of a helicopter there and an awesome restaurant in the middle of nowhere.

PS - we were there in early 2000’s.   Still had a film camera at the time.  We only had 2 pictures left on the roll when we arrived.  I was so pissed.   The place was beautiful.

I forgot all about The Hot Spot, got to watch them film some scenes at the car lot set they built on 2nd street next Louie Mueller's.

I'm going to have to watch Blood Simple now to see how many places I recognize. I have never heard of the movie which is surprising since I've lived in Hutto for most of my 46 years.

Do you remember the movie Heartbreak Hotel that was filmed in/around Taylor in the late 80s? They filmed a scene right by my cousins house off of CR101/Hwy 79 of the characters walking in the field between the big power lines.

My photo from about halfway up Castleton Tower.  A lot of the scenes in West World look to have been filmed in the Castle Valley, and the opening scenes were a flyby of the Rectory and Castleton Tower, a recurring piece of the scenery throughout most of the series.

and from the series (both photos from about the same time of day) ...
