Navy Fed sent me a new credit card. Just out of the blue. I didn't apply for it. No credit inquires on my credit report.

I'll throw it in the safe as an emergency card, I guess.

I'd reach out to NF to see whats up.  Your account or your identity may have been hacked.

If you don’t have a relationship with NFCU, I’d call’em NOW and freeze your credit.  Even if you do have a relationship with them, still call and ask why.  Without your authorization, they cannot open an account for you.  Something is up.

https://www.helpwithmybank.gov/help-topics/credit-cards/pre-approvals-solicitations/solicitation-new-card.html

The Truth in Lending Act prohibits a bank from issuing credit cards except

in response to an oral or written request or application for the card, or
as a renewal of, or substitute for, an accepted credit card.

Otherwise, if you receive an unsolicited card you should contact your bank promptly. Occasionally, a bank may issue a credit card in error. In such a case, you should direct the bank to close the account and remove any record of the account from your credit history.

Receiving an unsolicited card also could mean that a third party has applied for the card after stealing your identity. If you suspect identity theft, you should order a copy of your credit report. You can order one free credit report every 12 months through www.annualcreditreport.com or by calling (877) 322-8228.

For more information about identity theft, see "I believe I have been a victim of identity theft. How can I clear my name?"

Good, probably a card reissue situation which could be card number change, expiration or they changed processors.  Probably not as bad as it sounded.

Apparently, I did apply for it. Last Friday night when I was deep into a bottle of bourbon. That's a first for me.

How drunk do you have to be to apply for a credit card and not remember?

Was about to post this.

I remember when loan companies would send a live check at random, never had any contact with them.
All illegal now.

Edit.
After seeing you have a card with them. Are you sure it isn't to replace a current card that's about to expire?
My new bank card showed up this week because my current card is about to expire. I didn't request it. In the past I had to request one if it was about to expire.

Edit 2.

Glad you didn’t finish the whole bottle, who knows what you would have done.  Glad it wasn’t an identity theft situation.

Better a Spendy Drunk than a Mean Drunk, I suppose.  You should probably stay away from Ambien to be on the safe side.
