A couple of years ago I got called to jury duty and there was a guy there with a shirt that said, "Fuck you, you fucking fuck."

I have some off color hats and tees but I don't wear them to the grocery store or restaurants. The R rated ones don't get out much in public except for the range but even that risks offending snowflakes these days. The ones with dark humor but otherwise G rated get more wear.

Back in college, circa 1981, somebody gave me a "The hell with the mountains, show me your Busch" t-shirt. It went home in my luggage for Christmas, and my mother cut it up for dusters.
I just looked online. Unbelievably, 43 years later you can still buy that stupid shit. Lots of FJB variations on trucks, but for whatever reason you almost never see that kind of thing in public around here. |

I seen a twenty something couple getting out of their car at a Mexican restaurant the other day that looked like they just rolled out of bed. Dude was a fatty and his tee barely covered his gut. It read: “I could be home fucking right now.” The chick was pretty hot with short shorts on, so I can see his consternation.

I saw a hoodie in the Atlanta airport Friday that had something written on it (I forget what it said) but what caught my eye was that it contained the word Fuck.
I thought it was tasteless to wear in public. |

Any shirt that uses the word "fuck." We hate FJB, but is a low class and vulgar to wear a shirt with "fuck" on it.

Anybody remember "Big Johnson" t-shirts in the 80s and 90s? 'Cause I do.
It's not a new phenomenon, anyway. With that out of the way, "Look at me being edgy" t-shirts do get a bit tiresome. No one (at least not me, anyway) is suggesting outlawing them or anything ridiculous like that. Free speech works both ways, though - it is kind of douchey and low-class to wear that stuff to the grocery store, or whatever. It also kind of helps, if you can read a room. Like...I'm not going to get much in the way of angry confrontation or drama for wearing my "Kill a Commie for Mommy" t-shirt around here (to the contrary, it's more likely to get a laugh and a thumbs up), but I'm still not wearing it at the office. Or somebody's church. Or at "back to school" night. Or on any trips to San Francisco. But I'll wear it at a gun range, or at a HTF gathering, or whatever. Time and a place, and all that. |
