I personally did not, but I remember seeing them in the second half of the 80’s. I was in my early teens.
Anybody here have a rat-tail? |

I did not, but I remember the kids who had them. Mostly the poorer booger eater types below the heshers on the food chain. Me, I was cool - I had a too long undercut and jnco's.

18 in 1986 in the south.
So, fuck yeah. Tail had to be 12-16” long at its peak in 86 before i needed.job. Then it was gone. |

I had one. My mom took me to a barber shop I had never been to and secretly had the guy cut it off. When I got back in the car I felt back there and it was gone but she played dumb.

Wanted one because a couple of the "cool" kids at school had one. My parents said absolutely not.
My parents were wrong about a lot of things, but that wasn't one of them. |

I did, but it was a pretty pathetic one. (maybe 3 inches at most) My folks let me, but limited the length.
It was a pretty normal style among BMX kids in the South in the early and mid 80's. I was on the younger side and part of that culture. |

Catholic School through 86. Then tried to grow it all long in college, but it just grew bushy. Cut it all off, keep it short.
About 7 years ago I decided to try again. I think because my hair thinned out and turned gray it got straighter. Pony tail to the middle of my back now. Making up for my suppressed youth. And chicks dig it. |

Had a pony tail that went halfway down my back. Cut it off after getting it caught in a creeper putting a trailer hitch on a suburban at work.

I couldn't have if I'd wanted to, which I didn't. For some reason the hair on the back of my head grows extremely slow while everywhere else it grows like crazy. Wanted to do the mullet thing but never could.

Nope, but I did have mullet - spiked on top and long/curly in the back. It was glorious. The number of kids at my 10 y.o. son's wrestling tournaments sporting mullets is great to see. There are a few rat tails too.
