Coming here for more knowledge, if I have a P16-40, and want to be able to shoot 10mm, does anyone sell a 10mm barrel/recoil spring set up?
Slide, mags, and all other parts will still work right? Just need to change the recoil spring and barrel? Thanks in advance. I sold the one 10mm I had and don't think I want to get a Glock 20, so I'm thinking about converting the P16. |

I don't think the 10mm would fit in the magazine well. It will not fit in the .40 S&W mags and I don't think the mag well would take a bigger magazine to accomodate the 10mm.

I was playing around with the mags and loaded 10 10mm into the mag by hand, and was able to cycle them back out by hand.
Not saying it would work when being shot, but the rounds went into the mag. Guess I could try fulling loading and seeing what happens. |

Sell me your P16 for $400 and go buy another Glock. In wanting to replace my P16 that got the ex-wife stole during the divorce.

Either have the barrel reamed to 10mm or buy a drop in from whoever. The mags already work as you found out. I'd put in a heavier main spring and drop in a squared firing pin stop, then experiment with heavier recoil springs.

It's got fiber-optic sights, is a limited model with stainless frame and blued slide, ramped supported barrel, add-on mag well, and 3 extended 20 or 21 round mags. Every race gun like this I've seen selling is usually between 800-1200. |

Okay, I found these:
http://www.schuemann.com/OnlineStore/SchuemannCatalog/tabid/91/c/barrels/PageIndex/1/Default.aspx?filter=19%2C16%2C25%2C8 Para doesn't show any 40 barrels at their website, only 45's right now. Does anyone know the huge difference between the 2 barrels, other than the twist rate? And which twist rate is better for 10mm? |

The second barrel is already chambered for .40 S&W and has gain rifling, which starts off slower and speeds up as it goes. |

10mm will fit in the mags just fine. When p16's were the gun in IPSC/USPSA, everyone loaded the 40 to 10mm oal so the guns would work. Any 1911 barrel with the correct ramp will fit. The barrel will need to be fitted. Have a couple of extra slide stops and links on hand.
Or buy a Glock Edit to add:look at Ed Brown or Kart bull barrels with the Clark/Para ramp |

Don't even try,
The downfall is the MIM cast frame and side, which is not going to hold up to the pounding (which even the forged Delta frames have problems as well). But yes, the barrel can be rechambered to 10mm, the recoil spring changed out to a 24lb unit to run 10mm factory ammo until the pistol frame just gives up the ghost. FYI, although the 40 is loaded to 10mm pressures, it's done so with very fast powder to only make MPF. Meaning the although the pressure is high, the recoil of the pistol is almost none when it all said and done (sprung correctly, and a Tungsten guide, and/or bull barrel to add forward weight as well). |

So if you are recommending not to use the Para frame for 10mm, then is there any other good option for the 10mm than a Glock 20 or buying a whole new gun like a S&W 1006?

Glock 29, EAA Witness, Colt Delta, Bren Ten, Dan Wesson, Kimber made one, Fusion Firearms, S&W 1006, just to name a few.

Go ahead and get a barrel fitted to the P16 and get it chambered for 10mm. I have a P16, STI and SVI with 40 and 10 barrels. I can get 19 rds in the SVI and Para mags. I just upped the recoil spring to 18 lbs. The plan wasn't to shoot them with a steady diet of 10mm ammo just wanted a duel caliber guns. If I want to shoot heavy heavy loads I also have a 1026 and a DW RZ 10(one of the first 150) that DW did a few years back.

Rock island is now producing a 10mm as well. Para ramped and bull barrel.

I did that with a clark barrel on an early P16. The barrel was a return to my LGS and wasn't fully chambered.
There were no problems with the conversion, (once I found someone to ream the short chambered barrel to 10mm). I did it for the hell of it as a backup to my rifle with hogs. Never had to use it in the woods, but on the range it worked fine. I did not shoot more than 100 rounds of 190 grain federal HP in it. I agree that you'd need to beef up the suspension to keep from beating the gun to death. I got a good trade on it to someone in AK. The next season I picked up a G20. With nearly 200 in the barrel plus gunsmithing now, I'd probably not do that conversion. |

The G20 is a good gun. And you bastard... I told you I'd bought the P16 from ya'. Hell, I would've just paid for the blue label G20 and we would've called it even.

I am a big 10mm fan I own a converted p16-40 and the glock 10mm platforms
My p16 is the limited. I bought n 10mm finish reamer, and hand reamed the barrel. Im running an 18 pound recoil spring with the factory guide rod The glock is a great pistol but its not a p16-40 The para has less felt recoil, greater accuracy and 20 round capacity with the plus 4 base pads. But I repeat the glock is a great pistol. You can throwit under the seat and forget about it. |

It DOES work, bar-sto makes the bbl and link for it, I have it myself, its not maybe, its not in theory, it flat out WORKS and btw.......it really rocks, I did my conversion about 6 years ago, the 10 fits in the 40 mag, slim but it fits, you wont be sorry, its a blast!! I got a S&W 610 a few years back when they were affordable, love it, but I just wanted a bada$$ semi ;)

So how are you liking the glock? It works. It lacks the aesthetics of the 1911, but I'm looking at the 10mm RIA as an option right now. |

It's funny I found this thread....I've been planning this for years since I got my LDA hi cap 40 years ago. I just wanted to have another barrel for it an another option. Few nights ago, I found that Clark sells 10mm 6" 1911 barrals w/the Para ramp. http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/1911barrels.html I might give them a call to see if they are available (as they are discontinued). Brownells has it also, Clark barrel. Bar-sto also lists them, but it's more expensive. I don't plan to shoot a lot of rounds through it. Odds are I'd end up using a HEAVY recoil spring. I just converted my G21 over to 10mm using Lone Wolf slide and barrel. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_5_13/155575_Went_and_Ordered_it_from_Lone_Wolf______.html I got a 22 pound spring. Rounds cycled the gun okay. I was using some 10mm USA Ammo (new loads) that I bought years ago.... Reason I just converted the Glock, I only had one other 10mm and I thought it would be lonely (SW 610 6"). I didn't want to buy another gun, heck, I don't shoot my Glock G21 that much any how. Figured a slide and barrel was the best way....As it says in the post, buy a slide, get a free barrel. If it wasn't for that, I don't think I would have done it.....slide/barrel vs a new 10mm Glock was pretty close when I did the math a few years back. But it's easy to swap slides, much easier then in a 1911.... I plan to get a 10mm Mech Tech carbine "upper" for my Glock at some point....why not. |

Yeah, I kept going round and round about getting a 10mm conversion set up for my Glock 21, and then finally lucked into a G20 for a good deal, so I just went ahead and bought it. If the P16-40 I had was more of a carry gun and less of a competition gun I would have also been more likely to have kept it, but it had a mag well added to it where the frame had to be cut to accommodate it, so I couldn't take the mag well off without making the gun look really funky. I'll probably keep my eyes open for another one more traditional and still look into doing the 10mm conversion with it.

Yes, this is an OLD thread......
I am slow, as I have a 10mm 1911 barrel for my LDA 40, but have not had the time to track down a gunsmith to install.... But, in the mean time, I did find, on Gunbroker, a LDA 40 that had it's 40SW chamber reamed to 10mm! It arrived last week. I has a strong spring in it, 26lbs if I recall the info on the ad. I have not taken it apart to do any inspections. Hopefully it will be all okay.... |

Nice find.
There's a member here that reamed an AMT 40 out to a 10mm, and has/is going to do a couple others, like a S&W 3rd gen auto, I've seen a couple of his threads but haven't book-marked them for saving. |
